Better, bigger, bauma – the highlights of a fantastic bauma 2019 week

Passionate people both in the spotlight and behind the scenes were the driver of Zeppelin’s and Caterpillar’s success at bauma 2019. Salespeople, assistants, product managers, caterers, operators, technicians – you name it – they all worked hard to create solutions for our customers as well as for all the visitors to make bauma 2019 an unforgettable experience. The highlights were not only the stunning Hall B6, the Infinity Room in the Rental area or VIP visitors, but most of all the enthusiasm of our customers.

Zeppelin and Caterpillar enjoyed high media attention and coverage, but no medium offered as detailed and as timely in-depth-insights for Zeppelin as the www.wearebauma.com blog.

For those who could not come to bauma but also for those who were there and want to learn more about the highlights, we offer first-hand information, divided into different categories.

Top managers – both from Zeppelin and Caterpillar – explain why the long-standing partnership between Zeppelin and Caterpillar works so well and what bauma means for both our companies. It is already a tradition that Michael Heidemann, Vice Chairman of the Management Board, is challenged by colleagues from Construction Equipment EU when it comes to sales – find out about the bet and who won it in the blog.

We welcomed VIP visitors such as Peter Altmaier, German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy and Markus Söder, Bavarian Prime Minister or Prof. Dr. Michael Piazolo, Bavarian Minister of State for Education and the Arts. Board members from the banking industry shared their impressions in video interviews with us as well as Social Media and TV stars such as JP Kraemer, Pueppi@work, PushySix or even Barbara Schöneberger!

We explain not only individual construction machines, but also the portfolio and services that our different Strategic Business Units offer. Information on low-emission engines, temporary infrastructure, rental equipment, digital challenges in the construction industry or even the use of a construction equipment simulator is only one click away.

Zeppelin’s business is a people’s business and it’s also all the big and small stories at bauma’s sidelines that make us remember the event. Colleagues explain their individual jobs at bauma or share their memories from past baumas with us. Retired colleagues are happy to learn about the latest trends in digitalization and electrification – and some have even witnessed a wedding proposal on a Cat machine. We were delighted to meet our customers from all over the world and to see that they keep on buying our products and services.

Our success makes us grow in many ways – and we are looking for new colleagues! With our THINK BIG stand we addressed teenagers and young adults, introducing career opportunities in the construction industry to them. Also our HR recruiters from the SBU Construction Equipment made many contacts at the fair and even managed to hire straight on the point.

Bauma 2019 was the biggest bauma ever, with more than 620,000 visitors from 200 countries, 3,700 exhibitors and a surface of more than 614,000 m2. It was also the most successful for Zeppelin and Caterpillar so far, with a total of 3,550 construction machines sold and sales revenues amounting to EUR 462mn altogether, counting in sales from January on. Just during bauma alone, the SBU Construction Equipment sold 1,180 machines. Rental signed contracts over EUR 35mn, which is an enormous success, as well as Power Systems’ biggest order of ten engines, worth EUR 600,000 (and there are more orders!). Colleagues from CIS sold 41 machines, with a “big ticket” of 16 machines sold to customer Quarz alone. Z Lab posted more than 1,000 customer contacts and 100 interviews to help evolve their products zamics, klickcheck and klickrent.

Both Caterpillar and Zeppelin feel that also others should benefit from their making money and doing good business. While the Caterpillar Foundation raised money with their Water Walk, Zeppelin donated revenues from selling food at the Operator’s Club as well as a picture auction to Home from Home. The Group Management Board was happy to round up the original sum of EUR 45,000 to EUR 100,000, handing over a cheque directly at bauma.
